The Yukon, Canada

Hello to everyone from the most amazing road trip I’ve ever experienced. Although the Alcan highway hasn’t proven to be the technically challenging drive I was lead to believe it could be, It certainly doesn’t disappoint. As I drive this road, I can picture what it must have been like for the many soldiers and civilians who built it during World War II. I can see their choices to stay close to rivers and lakes while other sections were clearly blasted from the surrounding rock. It must have been a truly daunting experience to be this far from everything, cutting a road to a distant destination that had to be out there somewhere.

Driving the road is a true joy. Between the frequently seen wildlife, the long stretches without any other vehicles, and the truly enjoyable imperfections in the pavement toward the western end, I would drive this road again, just for the fun of it. Unfortunately, I’m certain all other road trips will be found wanting after this. If this trip has taught me anything so far, it’s simply this. Keep exploring. You never know what’s out there until you go looking for it. I’ll see you over the next horizon.
